Mayerthorpe Agriculture SectorStudy Grant
Mayerthorpe awarded CARES grant for agricultural study
MAYERTHORPE – Oneil Carlier, MLA for Whitecourt-Ste. Anne and Minister of Agriculture, presented a $15,000 cheque to the Town of Mayerthorpe to conduct an Agricultural Sector Study.
The grant will assist in the development of an agricultural sector study to assess the viability and vulnerability of smaller farms and their consolidation into larger corporate farms, and identify opportunities for value-added processing and manufacturing in the area.
The funding comes from the provincial Community and Regional Economic Supports program. During the second intake of applications from April 1 to May 31, 2017, 50 applications have resulted in a total of $4.24 million in grant funding.
Through projects like this, leaders in Alberta’s communities are working together to accelerate economic development and diversification, which will help the province become more competitive and prosperous – and create jobs along the way.
The third intake is well underway, and more successful projects will be announced in the New Year.
